THE POWER OF LIGHTNING

the grass needed cutting really badly, from all the rain.  but God had other ideas.  after completing 3/4 of the front yard, the sky grew dark, the wind began to blow, and thunder roared through the heavens.  as the sky grew darker, the power of the lightning could be seen.....ripping the heavens open, like a vicious knife wielding murderer, slashing through the darkness, bleeding light for only a second.  storms don't usually bother me, but when i am vulnerable to the storm, as i was today, i heed my inner voice, and i get out of harm's way.

it is now shortly after midnight, and something caught my eye from the slits in the window blinds.  a pinpoint of light.  i opened the blinds, and behold, the moon, about 3/4 full.  just a few hints of cloud around it.  from power of electrical storms, to the pale quiet light of the near full moon, God is in control.

A NEW DAY

after last night's storm, the new day has emerged.  grass, trees, bushes are greener.  the world is clean once more, waiting for humanity to dirty it up again.  dogs are barking in the distance, alerting trespassers to beware.  mostly, all is quiet.  no train whistles.  no children's voices raised in play.  no boom boxes shouting at the sky.  just me, with my thoughts, my emotions.  even the dogs have ceased their watch over their masters' property.  it is good to be quiet sometimes.........as long as the solitude and silence don't take you down the path to depression.  too oft my roads lead in that direction.  no one to share the simple joys of life make that road more accessible.  i think i will go out and look at the freshly rain-watered green grass.  maybe that is why God renews the earth, to help renew us, when hope and love seem so far away.

THE RAIN

rain, spattering against my window.......lightning flashing.  makes me feel a little sad, yet calms me.  i have always loved the rain.  nothing more refreshing than walking slowly in a soft spring or summer rain.  better to be holding the hand of someone dear.

I like the rain

Falling light on garden beds

Soaking down into cool, muddy earth

I like the rain

Heavy on tin roof, drowns out voices in the night

Roaring through gutters and down pipes

I like the rain

Especially when it stops suddenly, like a morning shower twisted off

And all the earth is fresh

And bright.

I wish you a rainstorm

I wish for you a rainstorm
that lasted for a day;
To wash away your sadness
and give you time to pray.
It would cover up your tears,
and then you’d surely see
That rainbows follow rainstorms
to brighten land and sea.

The grass seems a shade greener
the sky a dazzling blue;
Flowers open up closed buds,
the air feels crisp and new.
Everything seems fresh again,
the old was washed away;
Everything is clean again,
to start a brand new day.

Sometimes saddened hearts are like
the storm clouds that cause rain;
That wash us with such sadness
and fill us with such pain.
But when the rain has ended
you’ll look outside and see
The colors of a rainbow
to fill your heart with glee.

I wish for you a rainstorm
simply because I care.
May it wash away your pain
and let you know I’m there;
Whenthe rain clouds dull your sky
now you will surely know
That when the storm is over
I will be your rainbow.

MELANCHOLIA

Your Name

I wrote your name in the sky,
but the wind blew it away.
I wrote your name in the sand,
but the waves washed it away.
I wrote your name in my heart,
and forever it will stay.

TEARS

MORNING

THE TRAIN WHISTLE CHILLS MY SOUL.  IT IS EARLY MORNING.  SLEEP EVADES ME.  LIFE HAUNTS ME.  WHAT IF I WERE ON THAT TRAIN?  WHERE WOULD I GO, WHAT WOULD I SEE?  WOULD I BE HAPPY?  DARKNESS IS EVERYWHERE, EVEN IN THE HEARTS OF MEN.  IT DEPRESSES, IT FRIGHTENS, YET, IT IS NECESSARY.  WHY?  I HAVE NO CLUE.  I JUST KNOW THAT WITHOUT DARKNESS, WE WOULD NOT APPRECIATE THE LIGHT.  THE EARTH WAS WITHOUT FORM OR LIGHT WHEN GOD CHOSE TO CREATE OUR WORLD.  STILL, I WONDER WHY WE SUFFER THE DARKNESS SO.  ALAS, ANOTHER OF THE MYSTERIES OF THE SEDUCTION OF LIFE.
