Good question!! Very thought provoking!
I have actually given this piece of advice to my husband but will pass it on to my kids when I have them.
Everything is an experience, you gain a little bit of knowledge from everything that happens, bad or good. You can learn from it.
I use this little tidbit on myself too. When my house burned down, it was an experience, I learned that physical things weren't as important as I previously had. When my husband lost his desperately needed job, I passed that tidbit and now he uses it on me!

ALZHEIMERS

MANY PEOPLE FALL PREY TO ALZHEIMERS EVERY YEAR.  AND EACH PERSON WHO DOES IS SOMEONE'S MOTHER, FATHER, SISTER, BROTHER, DAUGHTER, SON, HUSBAND, WIFE...............................

THERE ARE ALSO MANY WHO DO NOT HAVE A LOVED ONE WHO SUFFERS FROM THIS HORRIBLE DISEASE. 

I AM ONE OF THOSE LATTER PEOPLE.........I KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAD A LOVED ONE WITH ALZHEIMERS, BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN CLOSE TO THE DISEASE ITSELF.  SO WHEN I STARTED READING THE JOURNAL OF A WOMAN WHO WAS LOSING HER YOUNGER SISTER TO THIS DEMON, I BECAME TOTALLY ENGROSSED IN READING IT, DAILY............

I WANTED TO SHARE THAT SAME JOURNAL WITH YOU.  IF YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE WHO SUFFERS FROM ALZHEIMERS, THEN YOU WILL KNOW THIS WOMAN'S PAIN.  IF YOU DON'T, YOUR HEART WILL STILL BE FILLED WITH SYMPATHY AND LOVE, AND YOUR EYES WITH TEARS.

GLORIOUS SUNDAY

                                      

i had planned on getting up early and going to the flea market to try to sell my handmade jewelry to help pay bills, but even though i didn't make any money today to go toward paying my past due rent, today was a glorious, wonderful day..............  

why you ask???  well.........first of all, it was one of my days off.  i didn't have to listen to people complain about the cost of our merchandise or the lack of availability of a given item.   

second, my estranged daughter and i talked a good bit into the night, and didn't have cross words with each other.  

third, my daughter, who stopped attending church over a year ago, asked me to go to church with her today.   

this may not sound like much to some people, unless you know the history here between myself and my daughter.  

she moved out of my house the day she turned 17.  she had been a summer missionary for 4 years and then when she turned 15, started hanging with the wrong crowd, drinking, smoking, cursing, and toking.  it broke my heart, but what could i possibly do.........so i prayed and prayed that she would turn her life back around.  

my daughter has a truly good heart...........always has.  she loves children, and i am sure she will someday make a wonderful mother. 

but she is a rebel, sometimes without a cause.  and she seldom listens to anything i have to say.  

lately, she calls me more and more frequently.  we talk on a more adult level now, though that is hard for me, since i still want to "mother" her. 

but she is now 18, almost 19, and is her own person and must make her own decisions, and learn from mistakes she makes.   

i have stopped going to church myself, mainly due to being at work on sundays and wednesdays, our regular church service days.  so when she called me last week and asked me to go to church with her, i was pleasantly shocked, but had to turn her down since i had to work. 

when she once again asked me this weekend, i jumped at the opportunity.  it would be a chance for us to "bond" and in the house of our Lord.   

i met her there, and we went in together.  now as i mentioned before, it has been almost a year since either of us have darkened the church doors.  several people who i consider "true Christians" came up to us, hugged and welcomed us back.  it made us both feel really good.  

the sermon was one i needed to hear at this point in my life.  it was about the way the Lord uses our trials and tribulations to mold and purify us for service to others, and to prepare us for heaven.   

after the service, my daughter took me out to eat, and paid for it herself.  i insisted i would pay, but she wouldn't have it.  it was only burger king, but it was food i didn't have to cook, and we spent time together talking, and getting acquainted again.   

all in all, this was a truly wonderful day. 

thank you Lord for providing a sunny warm day and for bringing my daughter back to me, even in small ways.

with all the drama and mean-spiritedness recently on the board, i felt compelled to say something....but didn't know what to say that wouldn't be picked apart and disected under a microscope....... then a dear online non-journal land friend sent me the following, and i thought it was perfect.  so, my offering to the people of journal land........

i don't consider it a costume, but every night wear..........but if i have to show my "costume", i guess this will be it...........and i apologize for the um, lack of coverage......

GRANDMA'S APRON

    

 

The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a holder for removing hot pans from the oven;  

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.  

From the chicken-coop the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and  sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.  

When company came those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids; And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.  

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.  

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled it carried  out the hulls. In the fall the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.  

When unexpected company drove up the road,   it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.  

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.  

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that "old-time apron" that served so many purposes.

upon the window sill i sit,
awaiting his eager smile to see.
wanting once more to hear his wit,
but instead feeling his insanity.
 

the sands of his demise do flow
from top of crystal glass.
into oblivion and chaos grow

i want to take him in my arms

just a note to say thank you to Lahoma and Sharon for trying to help me sell some of my jewelry to pay my bills.  this is what i have always felt friendship was about........sticking by someone when they were in trouble, and offering them a helping hand, a listening ear, and a shoulder to cry on.  thank you both for offering me just that........{{{{{hugs}}}}}                                    

DESPERATION

i vowed i would never beg, or steal, but tonight i feel i need to do one of those..........beg.  i have tried everything i know that is legal and moral to try to make enough money to pay my bills month to month.  but i always come up very very short.  as of today, the 16th, i am two months behind on rent.  that is a total of $1650.00.  i have to go to bankruptcy court on the 23rd, a week from today, and have to have paid in $520.00 in order to have my case confirmed.  to date, i have had $120.00 paid in.  on the 27th of this month, i have to have $154.00 for my electric bill, or it gets shut off on the 28th.  plus, i have car insurance, phone service, water and garbage, and of course, my only vice.......AOL, which is gonna be free for two months, due to their difficulties recently with my account.  i have tried to find a roomie, but to no avail.  i have tried finding a second job, to no avail, and i have gone to the local flea market to sell items from my home i feel are not necessities, and have failed to make more than $15.00 each time.  so since all have failed, i guess i will come here, to journal land, and ask a favor of you all...................  

1}  does anyone out there live in the south atlanta area and want to room with me?......non smokers and cat lovers only.....sorry.  

2}  will you look at my handmade jewelry i have for sale?  i don't have a good camera, so the pictures are not as true to color as i would like for them to be.   the prices i have posted include shipping charges unless there are more than 3 pieces requested.     

i hate doing this, but i am desperate right now.  i have managed to sell a few pieces of the jewelry but not enough to pay the big bills.    so if you can overlook my begging and pleading, and at least look at what i have, it would be so greatly appreciated.   

if you think what i am attempting to do here is ludicrous or tacky, that is ok too.  i guess i feel it is better than doing some of the things i hear other people doing elsewhere to make money.  i am at least offering something FOR your money.  when you get into a bind you do what you feel you have to, within reason.
